Fifth rib

The last rib to give origin to pectoralis minor, which arises from the outer surfaces of the third, fourth and fifth ribs near their cartilages. In every other respect the fifth is typical — two facets on the head, a tubercle, an angle, a costal groove. Its cartilage still reaches the breastbone in its own right, and its front end marks the upper limit of rectus abdominis's attachment, which spreads across the fifth, sixth and seventh costal cartilages.
