The hip is a deep ball-and-socket joint where the head of the femur sits in the pelvis — the most stable large joint in the body, ringed by the hip flexors in front, the abductors on the outside and the adductors of the inner thigh. It carries body weight through every step and controls how the leg is aimed underneath you. People come to a therapist for the hip because of groin pain or pinching when squatting and sitting, tight hip flexors from long hours seated, stiffness losing rotation, and lateral hip pain when standing on one leg.
