In Review

The knee is a hinge between the femur and the tibia with the kneecap riding in a groove at the front — held together almost entirely by soft tissue, with the cruciate and collateral ligaments as its restraints and the menisci as its shock absorbers. It is caught between the hip and the ankle, so it usually pays for what those two fail to control. People come to a therapist for the knee because of pain at the front with stairs, squatting and sitting, swelling and instability after a twist, tendon pain from running and jumping, and stiffness or grinding with age-related change.
