Lateral Line

In Review

A conceptual model, not a proven anatomical structure. The Lateral Line is described as running up each side of the body — from the outer foot, up the outside of the leg through the IT band and hip, weaving across the waist and ribs, to the side of the neck and skull. In the model it brakes side-bending and steadies the body in the frontal plane, which is why it is invoked when talking about single-leg balance and hip drop. A useful lens, not a dissectable structure.
