Lower leg

Crus

In Review

The lower leg spans knee to ankle on the tibia and fibula: the calf — gastrocnemius and soleus feeding into the Achilles tendon — behind, tibialis anterior along the shin in front, and the peroneals down the outside. This is where the push of every step is generated and where the landing is absorbed. People come to a therapist for the lower leg because of calf tightness and cramping, shin pain that builds with running mileage, Achilles pain and morning stiffness, and calf strain from a sudden sprint or jump.
