Lower subscapular nerve

Nervus subscapularis inferior

The posterior cord's lowest short branch, running down along the front of the shoulder blade to supply the lower part of subscapularis and then continuing to end in teres major. Those two muscles sit one above the other and pull the arm in the same direction — inward rotation and adduction — so one nerve serving both is an economical arrangement rather than a coincidence. It carries no sensory fibres at all, and lies deep enough against the scapula that it is described with the subscapular vessels rather than with the axilla's contents.
