Middle glenohumeral ligament

Ligamentum glenohumerale medium

The middle of three thickenings in the loose front wall of the shoulder capsule, running from the front rim of the socket downward and outward to the humerus just inside the lesser tubercle. It is bound closely to the deep surface of the subscapularis tendon, so muscle and ligament work across the same gap. Of the three it is the most variable: it may be a broad sheet, a narrow cord, or absent altogether. It becomes taut with the arm held near shoulder height and turned outward — the position in which the front of the joint has least bony cover and depends most on soft tissue.
