Quadratus lumborum — superficial points
In Review
One of the most consequential points in the body, in a muscle most people with low back pain have never heard of. The quadratus lumborum bridges the twelfth rib, the lumbar spine and the top of the pelvis, deep in the flank — and the superficial points, the lateral ones, refer along the top of the pelvis and out to the hip. That is why it is a great impostor: the pain lands in the low back and the hip, and the muscle producing it is deep enough that it is neither what the client points to nor what most treatment reaches. The founder's document makes low back pain problem 1, and this is the first muscle to think of when the ache is over the crest of the pelvis and lying down does not settle it.
