Subscapular fossa

Fossa subscapularis

The subscapular fossa is the whole front surface of the shoulder blade — the side that faces the ribs. The subscapularis fills it, taking origin from it and running out to the front of the arm bone. It is the only rotator cuff muscle on the front of the blade, and it is the one that cannot be reached straight on: it is sandwiched between the shoulder blade and the ribcage.
