Superior glenohumeral ligament

Ligamentum glenohumerale superius

The uppermost of the three capsular thickenings at the front of the shoulder, passing from the top of the socket beside the biceps origin across to the humerus above the bicipital groove. With the coracohumeral ligament it roofs the rotator interval — the triangular gap in the cuff between subscapularis and supraspinatus — and the two together sling the long head of biceps as it turns into the groove. It is the structure loaded when the arm simply hangs with a weight in the hand: with the arm by the side it is the chief check on the head of the humerus dropping downward in the socket.
