Transverse humeral ligament

Ligamentum transversum humeri

A narrow band stretched across the top of the bicipital groove, from the greater tubercle of the humerus to the lesser. It roofs the groove into a canal and holds the long head of the biceps tendon down inside it while the arm rotates. Its fibres are continuous with those of the subscapularis tendon and the joint capsule, so it is a local reinforcement of a larger sheet rather than a free-standing cord. It lies deep to the anterior fibres of the deltoid, at the front of the upper end of the humerus.
