Achilles tendinopathy

Reviewed by Dr. Ryan Rietz, D.P.T. and Dr. John Breyman, D.C.

An Achilles rarely objects to load — it objects to the size of the jump. A sudden increase in what you asked of it, on an ankle that does not move well, outruns the tendon's tolerance and it stiffens and complains with running and jumping. Tendons get better by being loaded properly, not by being protected.
