Deep transverse perineal

Musculus transversus perinei profundus

A sheet of muscle running straight across the front part of the pelvic outlet, in the space between the two ischiopubic rami, above the more superficial perineal muscles and below the pelvic floor proper. Its fibres pass horizontally from each side to meet their partners in the midline at the perineal body — the fibromuscular knot where most of the perineum's muscles converge. It is closely bound to the muscle that surrounds the urethra, and its role is to give the front of the outlet a firm transverse floor: it fixes the perineal body so that everything anchored to it has something solid to pull against.
