In Review

The femur is the thigh bone — the longest and strongest bone in the body. Its ball-shaped head sits deep in the hip socket on an angled neck that offsets the shaft outwards, and its lower end widens into two rounded condyles that roll and glide on the top of the shin to make the knee. Nearly every muscle of the hip and thigh either arises from it or pulls on it: the glutes and deep rotators grip the greater trochanter, the iliopsoas pulls on the lesser trochanter, and the adductors and the vasti run along the ridge down its back.
