Musculus flexor digiti minimi brevis

A small muscle of the hypothenar eminence that bends the little finger at its main knuckle and helps close the ulnar side of the hand around an object. It sits alongside the abductor and works with it and the opponens as a set: together they give the little finger the control that makes a grip stable rather than merely strong. Like the rest of the hypothenar group it is ulnar-innervated, and it is occasionally absent or fused with its neighbours.
