The hand and wrist are a dense stack of small bones — carpals, metacarpals and phalanges — moved partly by the forearm's long tendons and partly by the small intrinsic muscles of the palm. It is the body's most finely controlled region, and the tunnel at the front of the wrist is where its tendons and the median nerve all squeeze through together. People come to a therapist for the hand because of wrist pain with loading, thumb-base ache, weakened grip, and the numbness, tingling or night symptoms that come from nerve compression.
