Musculus flexor digiti minimi brevis pedis

A short muscle lying along the fifth metatarsal that bends the little toe down at the ball of the foot — the FOOT muscle of this name, distinct from the muscle called the same thing in the little-finger pad of the hand. It arises from the base of the fifth metatarsal and the sheath of the fibularis longus tendon crossing the sole, runs forward beside the shaft of that bone and joins the abductor's tendon at the base of the toe. Sitting in the sole's third layer, it is a genuinely small muscle acting on the least-loaded toe, and its interest is mostly that it completes the outer column of the foot's own musculature: an abductor along the edge, a flexor along the bone.
