Gluteus minimus
Musculus gluteus minimus
In Review
The smallest and deepest of the three glutes, lying directly under gluteus medius and fanning from the outer ilium onto the front of the greater trochanter. It abducts and internally rotates the hip alongside medius, but its more interesting role is closer to the joint: because its deep fibres blend with the hip capsule, it helps keep the head of the femur seated in the socket while the leg moves. The founder's system describes it in exactly those terms — 'Gluteus Minimus → Hip Stabilization' — which is why it belongs to the single-leg stability and balance conversation rather than the strength one.
