Musculi intertransversarii mediales lumborum

The inner member of the lumbar intertransverse pair, running from the accessory and mamillary processes of one lumbar vertebra to those of the next — closer to the midline and slightly behind the lateral slips it is named against. It side-bends a single segment, with the same negligible leverage as every muscle at this depth. It takes the dorsal rami, like the rest of the deep back, which is the one thing that separates it from its lateral partner and the reason the two are described as a pair rather than as one muscle.
