Masseter — superficial layer
The point that presents as toothache. The superficial masseter is the slab of muscle you can feel bulge when you clench, running from the cheekbone down to the angle of the jaw, and points in it refer into the teeth — the lower molars from its lower part, the upper molars and the cheek from its upper part. That is the clinically important fact about this record: patients bring this pain to a dentist, not a therapist, and a tooth that aches with no dental finding is a masseter until proven otherwise. The referral also reaches the eyebrow and can be felt as a band above the eye. It is the most-clenched muscle in the body and it is under the skin of the cheek, so it is one of the easiest and most rewarding points a therapist ever finds.
