Cervix

The neck is the seven cervical vertebrae and the sleeve of muscle around them, from the deep stabilisers hugging the front of the spine out to sternocleidomastoid and the upper trapezius. It carries the weight of the head, gives it the widest range of movement of any part of the spine, and forms the corridor the nerves and vessels of the arm pass through. People come to a therapist for the neck because of stiffness and restricted turning, aching that spreads into the shoulder or up into the head, and the postural strain of long hours at a desk or on a phone.
