Musculi scaleni
Reviewed by Dr. Ryan Rietz, D.P.T. and Dr. John Breyman, D.C.
Three muscles — anterior, middle and posterior — running from the cervical vertebrae down to the first two ribs. They side-bend the neck and lift the upper ribs in breathing, and the brachial plexus and subclavian artery pass between the anterior and middle bellies.
