Trigger point · Lower leg

Soleus TrP1

In Review

The most clinically valuable point in the lower leg, because it refers to the HEEL. The soleus is the deep calf muscle under the gastrocnemius, and this point — low in the calf — sends pain into the back and underside of the heel. That is the territory of plantar fasciitis, which is one of the most confidently self-diagnosed conditions there is, and heel pain that has not responded to months of stretching and inserts is a reason to palpate this muscle. The referral also makes the heel tender to weight-bearing, so the pattern reproduces the symptom that anchors the diagnosis. Anyone treating feet should know this point; it is a calf muscle wearing a foot problem's clothes.
