Sural nerve

Nervus suralis

The only nerve in the body formed by branches of both terminal divisions of the sciatic nerve joining back together. The medial sural cutaneous nerve descends from the tibial nerve between the two heads of the calf muscle, and a communicating branch from the common fibular nerve crosses to meet it partway down the calf; below their union the single nerve runs beside the small saphenous vein, passes behind and below the outer ankle bone, and continues along the outer border of the foot to the little toe. It supplies no muscle at all — its whole business is the skin on the outside of the lower leg and foot.
