Tensor fasciae latae TrP1

In Review

The small muscle at the front corner of the hip that puts pain down the outside of the thigh. The tensor fasciae latae sits just below and behind the bony point at the front of the pelvis and feeds into the IT band, and its point refers over the hip and down the outer thigh, often as far as the knee. Two things make it worth knowing. It is a leading source of the lateral hip pain that gets called bursitis, alongside the gluteus medius — and it is a muscle that sitting keeps permanently short, so it is dense and tender in a very large number of people who have never thought about it. Clients often cannot lie on that side, and cannot say why the outside of their thigh aches.
