Anterior superior iliac spine

Spina iliaca anterior superior

The ASIS is the sharp bony point at the front corner of the pelvis — the one you catch on the corner of a table, and the standard reference for judging how the pelvis is tilted. Two muscles take origin from it and both pull it downwards and forwards: the sartorius, the long strap that runs diagonally across the thigh to the inside of the knee, and the tensor fasciae latae, which runs down into the IT band on the outside. The inguinal ligament also anchors here and runs from it across to the pubic tubercle.
