Pubic symphysis

Symphysis pubica

The pubic symphysis is the joint in the midline at the front of the pelvis, where the two pubic bones meet across a pad of fibrocartilage. It closes the pelvic ring at the front and permits only a small amount of movement, which is exactly what is wanted: force crossing from one leg to the other needs a stable bridge. It is also where opposing pulls meet — the rectus abdominis attaches just above it, and the adductors and gracilis just below.
