Inferior pubic ligament

Ligamentum pubicum inferius

A thick arch of fibres binding the two pubic bones together underneath the pubic symphysis, rounding off the apex of the gap between the descending limbs of the pubic arch. It is the strongest of the ligaments around the symphysis, and its fibres blend with the fibrocartilage disc separating the bones. A small gap is left between its lower border and the perineal membrane for the deep dorsal vein of the external genitalia. With its partner on top of the joint it is what lets the two halves of the pelvis be loaded alternately through every step without the joint parting.
