Anococcygeal ligament

Ligamentum anococcygeum

A fibrous midline band in the floor of the pelvis, running from the back of the anal canal to the tip of the tailbone. It is not a joint ligament — it is the seam where the levator ani muscles of the left and right sides meet and interweave behind the anus, so it is better understood as the back edge of the pelvic-floor sheet than as a cord slung between two bones. That seam anchors the back of the anorectal junction to the coccyx and gives the levator sheet of each side a fixed midline edge to pull against, which is why it is described as part of the floor's support rather than as a restraint on any joint.
