Plantar tarsometatarsal ligaments

Ligamenta tarsometatarsalia plantaria

The sole-side bands of the same joint line, and they run obliquely rather than straight across: forward and sideways from the cuneiforms and cuboid onto the metatarsal bases, the strongest passing from the medial cuneiform to the second and third metatarsals. The angle is the point — a band set diagonally across the foot resists splaying as well as separation. They lie beneath the long plantar ligament and the tendon of peroneus longus, which crosses the sole on the same diagonal and reinforces them as it goes. Between the two sets, the tarsometatarsal joints are locked from above and below.
