Dorsal cuneocuboid ligament

Ligamentum cuneocuboideum dorsale

A short transverse band across the top of the outer instep, joining the cuboid to the lateral cuneiform. Three ligaments hold this small joint — dorsal, plantar and interosseous — and this is the most superficial and the thinnest of them, because the top of the foot is the side pulled apart least. Its work is restraint rather than motion: it holds the lateral cuneiform from lifting away from the cuboid as bodyweight rolls forward over the midfoot. It matters because the cuboid and lateral cuneiform together carry the outer column of the foot forward into the fourth and fifth toes, and that column only stays a single strut while these bands hold.
