Dorsal cuboideonavicular ligament

Ligamentum cuboideonaviculare dorsale

The navicular and the cuboid sit side by side in the middle of the foot, one carrying the inner arch and one the outer border, and this short flat band ties their upper surfaces together. The two bones barely form a joint at all — often they meet through fibrous tissue rather than a true joint cavity — so ligaments, not bone shape, are what hold them level with one another. Working with its plantar and interosseous partners, it stops the inner and outer columns of the midfoot sliding independently. That coupling is why the middle of the foot cannot twist freely: the two columns are stitched to each other from above and below.
