Lifting the arm away from the side of the body in the frontal plane. Supraspinatus initiates the first part of the range and holds the humeral head down in the socket; deltoid takes over as the main lifter. Good looks like: the arm rising smoothly through the full arc without a shrug, a shudder, or a painful patch partway up.
