In Review

The skull is the bony case of the head: a rounded vault that protects the brain, a face built around the eye sockets, nose and upper teeth, and a base that the neck balances on. It is not one bone but roughly two dozen, locked together at seam-like joints called sutures — the jaw is the only part that moves freely. For a therapist the skull matters mostly as an attachment plate. The muscles of the neck, scalp and jaw all pull on it, so tension in those muscles is felt as pressure around the head rather than in the bone itself.
