Medial phalangeosesamoid ligament

The last corner of the sesamoid frame: a short band running from the medial sesamoid forward to the base of the great toe's first bone, blending into the plantar plate. Read the four sesamoid ligaments together and the design becomes obvious — two small bones slung in a hammock, tied to each other in the middle, backwards to the metatarsal head and forwards to the toe. The hammock keeps them beneath the joint while allowing them to travel with it. This band sits on the inner side, where the abductor hallucis tendon also takes hold, so several structures converge on that one corner of the great toe joint.
