Long plantar ligament

Ligamentum plantare longum

The longest ligament in the foot, running along the sole from the underside of the heel bone forward to the cuboid, with a superficial layer continuing on to the bases of the middle metatarsals. Where it crosses the cuboid it bridges the groove on that bone's underside and turns it into a closed tunnel, through which the tendon of fibularis longus passes on its way across the sole. It lies deeper than the plantar fascia and more superficially than the short plantar ligament beneath it — the sole is built in layers, and this is the middle one.
