Interclavicular ligament

Ligamentum interclaviculare

A band arching across the hollow at the base of the throat, joining the inner end of one collarbone to the inner end of the other. On the way it blends with the top of the breastbone and with the capsule of each sternoclavicular joint, so the two joints are mechanically tied together. It is drawn taut when the shoulder is pulled downward — carrying a heavy bag on one side loads the ligament on both — and it is easy to locate, lying directly beneath the notch you can feel between the collarbones.
