Coracoacromial ligament

Ligamentum coracoacromiale

An unusual ligament: it joins two parts of the same bone, bridging the coracoid process and the acromion of the scapula. Together with those two projections it forms a rigid roof over the head of the humerus. That roof stops the humeral head riding upward out of the socket — but it also creates the tight corridor the supraspinatus tendon has to pass through, which is central to how shoulder impingement is understood.
