Interosseous talocalcaneal ligament

Ligamentum talocalcaneum interosseum

A thick band hidden in the tunnel between the talus and the heel bone — the tarsal canal, which opens on the outer side of the foot as the funnel-shaped sinus tarsi, the soft dimple just in front of the outer ankle bone. It fills that canal, attaching to the facing grooves on the two bones, and it is the main thing holding them together. Because it lies in the middle of the joint it crosses rather than at its edge, it sits close to the axis about which the heel turns beneath the talus.
