Plantar cuboideonavicular ligament

Ligamentum cuboideonaviculare plantare

The underside counterpart of the dorsal band, joining the navicular to the cuboid on the sole. It is the stronger of the pair, as the plantar ligaments of the foot generally are: the sole is the side pulled apart whenever the arch flattens, so the tissue there is built thicker. It is reinforced from above by slips of the tibialis posterior tendon, which spreads across the plantar midfoot like an open hand and blends into several of these ligaments. That shared attachment is why the plantar ligaments and the deep calf muscle that supports the arch cannot really be considered apart from one another.
