Plantar cuneonavicular ligaments

Ligamenta cuneonavicularia plantaria

Three bands on the sole running forward from the navicular onto the three cuneiforms, mirroring the dorsal set above them. They sit in the deepest layer of the arch, underneath the tendons of tibialis posterior and flexor hallucis longus, and they receive reinforcing slips from the tibialis posterior expansion as it fans across the sole. Because they lie on the underside of the arch they are on the stretched side whenever bodyweight presses the arch down, which is why they are the stouter of the two sets. Anatomically they are what stops the keystone of the arch and the wedges in front of it hinging open.
