Tibial tuberosity

Tuberositas tibiae

The tibial tuberosity is the bump on the front of the shin about a thumb's width below the kneecap — easy to find on anyone. The patellar tendon inserts here, which means the entire force of the quadriceps, routed over the kneecap, is delivered into the shin bone at this one point every time you straighten the knee, stand up from a chair or land from a jump. In growing adolescents the growth area beneath it can become painful and prominent, a condition named Osgood–Schlatter disease.
