Anterior ligament of fibular head

Ligamentum capitis fibulae anterius

Two or three flat bands across the front of the small joint between the head of the fibula and the outer corner of the shin bone, just below and behind the knee. The fibres run upward and inward from the front of the fibular head onto the front of the lateral tibial condyle, thickening the front of that joint's capsule. It is the stronger of the joint's two named ligaments. It matters because the fibular head it holds in place is the anchor of the outer knee — the biceps femoris tendon and the lateral collateral ligament both take hold on that same head, and the common peroneal nerve winds around the neck of the bone just below.
