Lateral collateral ligament

Ligamentum collaterale fibulare

A narrow cord-like ligament on the outer side of the knee running from the femur down to the head of the fibula. It resists the knee bowing outward. Unlike the MCL it stands clear of the joint capsule and the meniscus, so it is injured less often and usually by a blow to the inside of the knee.
