Popliteofibular ligament

A short band joining the tendon of popliteus to the styloid process of the fibula, running downward and outward from the point where that tendon crosses the back of the knee. It is unusual in having a tendon at one end rather than a bone, which puts it in the same category as the oblique popliteal ligament — a passive restraint whose tension a muscle can change. It belongs to the posterolateral corner, the cluster of small ligaments and tendons at the back-outer angle of the knee that are easy to overlook because none of them is large.
