Posterior cruciate ligament

Ligamentum cruciatum posterius

The stronger of the two cruciate ligaments, crossing the ACL inside the knee. It anchors to the back of the shin plateau and the inner wall of the medial femoral condyle, and it stops the shin sliding backward under the thigh bone. It is typically injured by a direct blow to the front of a bent knee — a dashboard or a fall onto the kneecap — rather than by twisting.
