Gemellus inferior

Musculus gemellus inferior

The lower twin — a short strap running from the upper part of the ischial tuberosity to blend into the underside of the obturator internus tendon. Like its partner above, it has no separate insertion and no separate action; it reinforces obturator internus and belongs to the deep rotator layer. It differs from gemellus superior in one respect worth knowing: it takes its nerve from the nerve to quadratus femoris rather than from the nerve to obturator internus.
