Gemellus superior

Musculus gemellus superior

One of the twins — a small strap from the ischial spine that blends into the upper edge of the obturator internus tendon as it turns the corner into the buttock. It has no independent tendon and no independent action: it exists to reinforce obturator internus, and the three together are sometimes called the triceps coxae. Clinically it is never treated on its own; it is part of the deep rotator layer whose job, in the founder's system, is femoral head stability.
