Lachman test

The main hands-on test of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) — the ligament inside the knee that stops the shin bone sliding forward on the thigh. With the knee bent just short of straight, the examiner tries to draw the shin forward. How far it travels, and whether it stops against a firm end-point, is a direct read on whether that ligament is doing its job.
