Medial border of the scapula

Margo medialis scapulae

The medial border is the long inner edge of the shoulder blade, running roughly parallel to the spine a few centimetres out from it. It is a tug-of-war line. The rhomboids insert along it and the levator scapulae attaches at its upper corner, both pulling the blade inwards and upwards; the serratus anterior grips its front surface from the ribs and pulls it forwards and around. When a shoulder blade wings away from the ribcage, this is the edge that lifts.
